Goanna Ag is founded in Queensland, Australia, to cater to the evolving needs of the agriculture sector.  The mission was to transform modern farming practices with comprehensive solutions for precision farming.

Growth and investor confidence

Goanna Ag makes remarkable progress in 2017 with recognition of the company’s substantial potential attracting multiple investors.  Working capital is directed towards achieving pivotal goals including team expansion to drive enhanced solutions and a large scale roll out to the Australian cotton industry.

2018

Innovation and collaboration

Tom Dowling, founder of Goanna Ag and Dr James Mahan (USDA) meet to discuss the opportunity for Goanna Ag to collaborate and trial the Plant Stress solution that Dr Mahan and his research collaborators have been developing for 10 years.

2019

Commercial trials

Dr James Mahan (USDA) and his research colleague, Dr Paxton Payton, approach Cotton Inc. to support the first commercial trial of the Plant Stress technology with cotton growers around Altus, Oklahoma. Goanna Ag are invited to contribute their hardware and forecast algorithms to the collaboration.

2020

Technological advancement

Despite the impact of the global pandemic preventing international travel, the 2nd year of the Altus, Oklahoma trial continues to validate the science and research that underpins Goanna Ag’s GoField irrigation scheduling solution.  


 
 

2021

Expanding reach

With continued interest from irrigators across the Texas High Plains, Goanna Ag take the first steps toward establishing a commercial operation in US.  Following the success of the Altus, Oklahoma experience, Goanna Ag are invited to trial their solution with University Researchers in Texas and Oklahoma.

2022

Growth and talent acquisition

Despite ongoing drought conditions across the High Plains, Goanna Ag continue to steadily grow their customer and research base.  University projects account for over half the 150 fields in which GoField is deployed in Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. Commercial clients sign up in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

As a result of consistent growth and an evolving solution, both Dr Payton and Dr Mahan join the Goanna Ag U.S. team, bringing with them expertise from stellar research careers spanning over 20 years. 


 
 

2023

Expansion in the US

Despite ongoing drought impacting the Southwest, Goanna Ag’s commercial and research client numbers continue to grow, adding Arizona and Kansas to their existing territories and doubling their U.S. business.  Strategic expansion discussions coincide with an opportunity to drive improved Water Productivity outcomes collectively with Cargill and plans for expansion into the Mississippi Delta are laid.

2023 also saw the launch of a new Goanna Ag app, giving clients immediate access to intuitive and user-friendly data to support their business.

2024

Key partnerships

Widespread early season rains restore some confidence in key production areas. Goanna Ag and Cargill agree to terms and began deploying a collective solution across Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri. This partnership sees the appointment of Trey Freeland, based in Leland, Mississippi to provide support and manage this territory.

Goanna Ag are again on track to again double their US business in 2024.
